American Idol Season 11 Top 13 Boys
I was not going to do it but here I am again blogging about this show. I am just waiting for the upset of the season to keep me from caring lol. Well I am going to give it a try. I haven't watched much about this season yet but I have heard some interesting things. So most of these guys I am hearing for the first time. I hate this format so much. They get one chance and then half of them are cut. Here is my synopsis of the guys:
Eben Franckewitz - Set Fire To The Rain: Awww. I just wanted to rescue you from the big scary stage. You seemed so uncomfortable and just plain scared. Your voice is so pure and just didn't have the angst to match that of Adele's. No vocal power yet but it is okay.
Jeremy Rosado - Gravity: Disconnected and disjointed are the two words that come to mind when I think of this performance. He is so not ready for this. I love love this song but not for you. I don't know what you were going for here. Your moneymaker note was all over the place and tarnished.
Chase Likens - Storm Warning: BORING!!! You seemed so awkward on stage. I love country but this was missing something for me. You felt very self involved and not connected with the audience. I think that your vocals are lacking substance as well. Hmmm not my favorite song choice for you as well.
Reed Grimm - Moves Like Jagger: Well I LOVE the original. This pales in comparison to me. I understand trying to make a song your own but this does not sit well with me. Steel drums really???? I don't get it. Still not sinking in. Hmm, I am sure that he will get a spot but is it deserved??
Heejun Han - Angels: BORE FEST!!! I expected so much more. I love the tone of your voice but you showed 0 personality. I can almost guarantee that you will get a spot but step it up please!!!
Adam Brock - Think: I actually like the timbre of his voice. He managed to hit most of the notes and they had some sort of character. Vocals were pretty good and this was an interesting song choice for you. I just need you to amp up the stage presence. It came off very karaoke-ish. Hope to see you in the top 12 but I don't think that it will happen.
Phillip Phillips - In The Air Tonight: Okay but did not blow me away. I was expecting more since all of my friends were talking about how great you were. Everything just sat on one plain for me. Just okay for me.
Aaron Marcellus - Never Can Say Goodbye: I love the tone of his voice and the fact that he somewhat entertained. There were a couple of mishaps in the song for him but most of it worked! I think that he has a lot of potential!!
Jermaine Jones - Dance With My Father: Great vocals dude. I don't know if American Idol is the right venue or venture but stellar trained vocals. I love that you are bringing the bass into the competition. Most of your comrades are singing up in the rafters lol. I would love to see more stage presence from you. Good job!!!
Creighton Fraker - True Colors: Good job minus the guttural sound at the start of some of your words. I can see the potential. Don't know if it is there yet but I see it. Just lose the affected singing. No need to force what is already there!
Colton Dixon - Decode: I am a sucker for piano playing emo rock performances. Pretty good. I figured that you would just be okay but I consider this a good performance for the first showing. I would buy it. Good job!!!
Deandre Brackensick - Reasons: This is one of my favorite old school songs. When I saw that he was doing this, I was like "OH NO" but I am pleased with the performance. Yea there were some moments of flatness but his voice is so good. Seriously when he is not singing the falsetto, I love it even more. The runs and nuances that he toyed with were perfect for the song. He really has pipes. Good job!!!
Joshua Ledet - You Pulled Me Through: YES!!! I got goosebumps from this. I know a lot of people won't feel the same way. He took me there. Just like his "Jar Of Hearts" performance. He sang from his GUT!!! Whew the man is the real deal. Let's see how he does with other genres.
So in closing, My top 6 guys are Joshua Ledet, Deandre Brackensick, Colton Dixon, Creighton Fraker, Jermaine Jones, and Aaron Marcellus. I can guarantee that Phillip Phillips and Heejun will nab two of the spots which means that we won't be seeing Aaron in the top 12 at least. It is going to be a tough call. If I had to predict I would say: Joshua Ledet, Deandre Brackensick, Heejun Han, Phillip Phillips, and Colton Dixon with Reed Grimm or Jermaine Jones getting a wildcard. I believe that Joshua definitely earned his spot for sure.
