American Idol Season 11: Top 12.....Top 11: Birth Year Songs
Well let me start off by saying how much I DISLIKE this theme and they manage to put it in there every season. Something just seems pointless about this theme for me. But then again, the contestants really seem to have fun with it.
I created a separate post to discuss the scandal so I won't go into it here. Here is how I rate the contestants tonight:
Heejun Han - Right Here Waiting: A breathy out of control mess! Seriously, I think that you have not delivered one solid performance yet. It is time to do so sir!! This is the Top 11/12 and I need to see why the judges let you get this far and why America is keeping you this show. What you have shown us so far does not validate anything. I understand the tone of your voice is great but you don't have any breathing, phrasing, or control technique. Get it together or go home!
Shannon Magrane - One Sweet Day: I think it comes down to the fact that she is too amateurish for this stage of the competition. She is trying to tackle songs that are too big. She doesn't have finish or the polish to pull them off. There is something there but it needs like 2 more years to even begin to bloom. Right now, she is trying to imitate everything that she has heard and not doing so well with it.
Deandre Brackensick - Endless Love: First things first, why do always look and sound like Beyonce to me?? Just a thought. Horrible song choice for you. It was so safe but it was still beautiful. I walked away from it saying "So What?". That is not an impression that you want to leave an audience with. Hope to see you next week but I definitely see you making a trip to the bottom 3.
Erika Van Pelt - Heaven: Well I love this song. I love it for the phrasing and I hated what you did with some of it. The rhythms can sometime make a song and this version was almost unbearable for me. I love love love the tone of your voice but this was pretty so/so for me. The rhythmic changes definitely distracted me. Your pitch wasn't exactly perfect but it was okay. There were some spots of uncontrolled vocals.
Phillip Phillips - Hard To Handle: For the first time this season, I liked it. The song suited your voice and I actually got to hear your voice with a melodic line!!! It wasn't super perfect but it was way better than your other performances. Could this take you over the top?
Elise Testone - Let's Stay Together: I love the tone of your voice. It showcased very well in this song. The delivery was executed very nicely. Way better than last week. Great!!! When you milked that first "Love", I almost passed out LOL!!! The piano beginning was fantastic!!!!
Jessica Sanchez - Turn The Beat Around: What were the judges saying about her vibrato? I loved it on this song!!! She performed and just put her all on the stage. My only complaint was the "pop star" ARE YOU READY?. I hate when singers do it in the middle of a song. Beginning is fine but in the middle doesn't make any sense. Just a minor annoyance. She wailed all over that song like nobody I have ever heard. You can totally hear the Beyonce influence in her vocal decisions.
Colton Dixon - Broken Heart: Yep you ousted Jessica. I loved the clarity of your voice and the performance. Definitely your best! The beginning was so epic and professional sounding. Then the transition just made the song flow and feel current. I loved it.
Hollie Cavanagh - Power Of Love: There were a few pitch issues but holding those notes for that long needs to get some type of credit. Trust me this song is not easy at all. I give you mad props for tackling it head on. I thought that you did an awesome job with the song. Yea you were not ready for you last note but I think that you performed the song well.
Skylar Laine - Love Sneaking Up On You: Could you be the one to come from behind and win it all? Quite possibly. Seriously, that was a stellar performance and vocal!!! Nothing to critique. You have spunk and I like it a lot!!!!
Joshua Ledet - When A Man Loves A Woman: WHOA!!!!!!!! You have that classic soul voice mixed with down home church singing that comes right out of your big toe. I know some people call it over singing. Right now for me, it is the truest form of expression. Meaning that you are really feeling the song and getting connected. YESSSS!!!! Just so you don't wear out your welcome, I would like to see a more subdued performance but that was SANGIN'!!! I wanted to throw my shoe at the computer monitor!!!
So I think that some people are starting to show that they really want the prize!!! If I had my say, no one would be eliminated this week. Who knows, that might happen but my bottom 3 are Heejun, Shannon, and Deandre. If they eliminate someone, I can see it being Shannon or Deandre. Hopefully not Erika!!!!
Now I can not believe that they really aired the disqualification footage of Jermaine. That just blew my mind. Wow.
