American Idol Season 11 Top 13: Whitney Houston/Stevie Wonder

They are tackling two iconic singers tonight. A catalog that has so many amazing songs. They are going in order of lowest to highest:

Shannon Magrane - I Have Nothing: Girl, you should have nothing? I felt like the song was a conglomerate of incomplete phrases. Seriously, pitch all over the place. Disconnected. Just a mess. You looked so uncomfortable on the stage and the song just swallowed you whole.

Heejun Han - All In Love Is Fair: Hmmm I love the tone and texture of your voice but you don't know what to do with it yet. It was definitely flat during a lot of the song. Like cringe worthy flatness. There was a very exposed note that was super out of place. Definitely not your best. At all.

Phillip Phillips - Superstition: Uh....no. He screamed that entire song. Yes he has character and stage presence but I guess now we might as well throw Roseanne Barr up there to sing every week. I am not a fan. Yes while he has some great showmanship, he is vocally outdone by at least 8 other contestants. I don't want to hear a record that he does. I did not enjoy this. But his performance compensated for some issues but not all.

Jeremy Rosado - Ribbon In The Sky: This is not an easy song to sing. It just felt rushed and choppy to me. It felt as if you were always trying to catch up. You would benefit from deep breathing and a phrasing workshop. Hopefully you get better and get to enhance your nice tone.

Elise Testone - I'm Your Baby Tonight: Did I see nerves from you? It wasn't the greatest but it wasn't horrible. You looked very uncomfortable. I saw you trying to be flirty and sexy but I can tell that you weren't fully committed to it. Not a bad vocal. Just a couple of places that had unsure vocal patterns and rhythms.

Jermaine Jones - Knocks Me Off My Feet: I just need you to relax more. I feel like you want to do everything by the book but take risk a little! Vocally it was what I expected but it border-lined boring. I like that you use the lower end of your vocals. Separates you from the pack. I just want you to show more of your personality.

Colton Dixon - Lately: I love this song. This is my "put on the spot so I have to sing" song. The beginning was a little rocky and all over the place. Then you found your stride and started to feel the song. That was when it got good!!! I loved the effortless transition to the falsetto at the end. What can I say. Good performance.

Skylar Laine - Where Do Broken Hearts Go: I loved your country twist to the song. I made it a different song and very enjoyable. That was pretty much an effortless performance and I can totally see what type of artist you will be. Way to change my opinion.

Joshua Ledet - I Wish: He had such a good time up there. It was an awesome vocal. Not great but awesome. Song was perfect for him and his style. Pet peeve: Judge shout out's during songs. "I see ya J Lo". We all see her and we know that you see her, why point it out during your performance. Other than that, solid performance.

Deandre Brackensick - Master Blaster: This is my least favorite Stevie song but I loved your voice with it. Your vibrato complimented it very well. You gave us entertainment and performance. And I liked that you stayed in the natural vocal range!!!

Hollie Cavanagh - All The Man That I Need: What a song!!! One of Whitney's best. There was one flub for me and that happened during the key change. You seemed unsure. But once you jumped on board, you had power notes for days!!!! Yes do what you do!!! I heard a little broadway in there which made me happy.

Erika Van Pelt - I Believe In You And Me: YESSS!!! That tone from the start had me!!! And you were so natural on the stage. There may have been just one rough patch in the middle but other than that, I was amazing!!!! I heard you hit notes that I didn't think that you would hit! You took your time with it and milked it at the right spots. Professional!!!

Jessica Sanchez - I Will Always Love You: First of all, it takes guts to go out on national tv and sing the most recognizable song from the collection of an icon who just passed less than a month ago. Jessica, you were spot on. You didn't do to much with the embellishments but you did enough. I was praying that you wouldn't run all over the song. You gave a poised and vocally superior performance. I really can respect that and hope that you can continue to give us great performances week after week.

Well there were a couple of bumps in the road but JESSICA, ERIKA, and HOLLIE killed it for me. SHANNON and HEEJUN gave the weakest performances. I really hope that Shannon goes home this week. She is out of her league. Definitely.
