American Idol Season 11 Top 13 Preview/Prediction
So we finally are here. The Top 13 will perform the collection of Whitney Houston and Stevie Wonder. Like the theme but I don't think that it is fair to make the guys sing Stevie and the girls sing Whitney. Me personally, I would rather choose a Whitney song over a Stevie song. Okay enough with my blabber. Here is how I feel about our Top 13:
13: Jeremy Rosado: Nice kid but I just don't see "star" when I see him. I think that the competition could swallow him. His wildcard selection was way better than his previous performance but was that a fluke?? Can he deliver the goods week after week? He may come out the gates blazing.
12: Jermaine Jones: I was listening to his performance from last week and realized how low it actually was. He has a great voice. Don't know if it is suited for American Idol. I mean I would love to see him on the opera stage but the AI stage is not a place for his voice. He may very well surprise me and let loose a little. I am actually hoping for that.
11: Skylar Laine: I always forget about her. She is definitely gritty country and I like that style from time to time. Just curious how she will keep up her style throughout the weeks. I was not a huge fan of her last performance. It just came off as spastic. I hope that she can hone in on her potential.
10: Heejun Han: He is a popular contestant. That will take him far. But vocally, he is good but not as good as his fellow contestants. He is likable but that can only last for so long. He needs to focus on his songs definitely.
9: Shannon Magrane: She has potential to be really good but I can see her getting lost in the mix. There are more mature and bigger personalities that she has to fight against. She will definitely need to let her personality be less one dimensional.
8. Deandre Brackensick: He has a great lower register. My problem is that he doesn't use it much. Seriously, every song does not have to be in the stratosphere. Use all of your tools. I would love to hear a song without any inkling of the falsetto.
7. Erika Van Pelt: Yes I love her tone and her vocal stylings but I don't know if America likes her as much as I do. She needs to turn out a stellar performance to even make it this far. Or maybe the Wildcard rallied her fans. Who knows. I know I want to hear more from her!!!
6. Colton Dixon: I like his indie rock vibe. He could be better vocally but he is the only one who has their own lane. I can see him making far with the teen girl/Twilight vote. He actually has a nice tone to his voice as well.
5. Phillip Phillips: (Let me shield myself from the darts) He may have the appeal and the uniqueness but I am not a huge fan of his voice. It is listenable but doesn't make me want to go out and buy records. I think that America could possibly be growing weary of the same type of singer winning the competition. He needs to stand out from the crowd or be the shock elimination.
4. Elise Testone: I love her vibe and angst in her vocals. My worry is that she will lose her voice before the end of week 4. The raspy tone could be natural but with the cracking going on, I may be forced.
3. Hollie Cavanagh: I am big fan of little girls with huge voices. She is one of two this year and I think that she just needs to gain more confidence. She has the chops and now the spotlight. She was a favorite of mine from last season.
2. Joshua Ledet: Whoa, dude gives me the goosebumps with his emotion filled delivery. As long as he can reign in a little and only use it when he has to, he will be great.
1. Jessica Sanchez: She sang like a pro last week when she was sick. Enough said. She is a powerhouse definitely. I just hope that she doesn't see an early departure. She seems like a hard worker and someone who the judges would definitely save.
I will go on record and say that this season makes me as excited as Season 3. There are so many likes to the contestants of season 3. Two J Hud songs already this season, Mantasia as a nickname, Little girls with big voices i.e. Latoya London. Seriously, I hope that this season doesn't disappoint. These contestants may have reignited the spark in my American Idol interest.
