American Idol Season 11: Top 7 Current Songs
I loved the concept of this theme. It is always good to do current material. Older material always needs to be changed up a lot to make it fit your "style" and then you get criticized if you do too much. Wow I can not believe that we are in the Top 7 already and we HAVEN'T used the SAVE!!!!
Well let's get down to business:
Phillip Phillips - Give A Little More: Sorry but once again, not impressed. The beginning was actually okay but then it just got crazy strained. I like to see that the singer is enjoying it as opposed to looking like
Hollie Cavanagh - Perfect: This is one of my favorite songs and I was curious to see what you would do with it. The first parts of it were pretty good. But when you went for the start of the 2nd chorus, it got a little scatterbrain. There were pitch problems throughout the latter part. I feel a disconnect with you and your songs. You are constantly thinking instead of enjoying the moment. It is such a shame because you have such a powerful instrument.
Skylar Laine - Didn't Know How Much I Loved You: Good song choice for you!! I started a little shaky but then you hit your stride. I liked the interpretation of this song. You seemed a little nervous. Would love to see more of your personality. There were some parts that were a little too throaty and whiny but overall it was a good performance.
Elise Testone - You And I: Song choice alone gets props from me!!! Man I love this song. That aside, it was an okay performance. I still feel like I want more vocals from you. The tone of your voice is unique but so is the tone of Oscar The Grouch. That doesn't mean that he can sing. I need to hear you SING A SONG for REALZZZ!!!
Colton Dixon - Love The Way You Lie: I am a straight up sucker for strings and piano arrangements. I loved the arrangement. The vocal was a little above okay. Nothing super stellar but still really good. There were moments of strain and weakness but there were also moments of sincerity and emotion. I think that this was one of your best performances so far.
Joshua Ledet - Runaway: Thanks for switching it up!!! Now I know that you can kill on an up tempo song. It had so much energy and performance!!! Definitely one of your best!!! Only problem that I had was that some of your higher notes seemed a little strained and screechy to me. Just try to round it out more. Great performance.
Jessica Sanchez - Stuttering: YESSS I love when a contestant sings one of my favorite songs even though it is a lesser known song. Jazmine Sullivan created such amazing music with this song. Jessica did a fantastic job with this song. The way that she pulled back at moments really helped to paint the picture. I always have to step back and say "OMG she's 16". LOL VFTWorster's will love that last saying LOL. Great tone and great presence. Definitely a top notch vocalist.
Lets talk about these duets/trios: They feel so thrown together. Just like afterthoughts. I think that Colton/Skylar were the best followed by the trio and then by Phillip and Elise.
I fear that Hollie may be walking out 7th tomorrow but I really hope that America puts Phillip in the B3 just to let him know that they are tired of the same old stuff. I think that Elise and Skylar have great chances of making the B3.
