American Idol Season 11: Top 7 Redux Then and Now Songs

Yay for the theme!!! They definitely need to this more often!!!! And I am so happy that they let the contestants sing 2 solo songs instead of 1 with a duet/trio. Here is how it played out for me tonight:

Colton Dixon - September: OH NO What did you do to this high energy song???? AHHHH I feel like you may have given the worst arrangement in Idol history. This actually made me very very sad. It really brought me down =(

Joshua Ledet - I Believe: Well, this was probably your worst performance. There were moments of sharpness all over the verses. I didn't feel any real passion or emotion. It seemed a little contrived. And then what the heck happened at the end? Was that a mistake or did you mean to end in the middle of a sentence??? I was so expecting this to be right in your wheelhouse but you totally bombed on this for me.

Joshua Ledet - Change Is Gonna Come: Ummm on paper this is BRILLIANT!!! However in performance, it was so lackluster and sloppy that I didn't care. It is really bad when your audience doesn't care. This would have been the moment where I got up to go to the bathroom. Such a disappointing night for you. It felt like you didn't practice enough. Something just off.

Elise Testone - Let's Get It On: First of all, there is no high screaming in this song. EVER! That just took away any kind of sexiness that was there. Secondly, it just felt awkward. On a positive, I liked the tone of your vocals besides the screaming. And the band was AWESOME especially the sax.

Skylar Laine - Heard It Through The Grapevine: It was just another so/so performance for me.

Phillip Phillips - In The Midnight Hour: I actually liked your vocals for this song. But of course I hated the last few moments of the song. In your first song, you proved that you can actually sing a song. But here, you jumped into screamy raspy mode which borders on horrifying because of the faces you make. It is almost like you actually transform LOL.

Skylar Laine - Born This Way: I love your gritty down home country style. But for this song, it was a little too choppy. This wasn't your best vocal but it wasn't your worst. Just a so/so performance for me.

Elise Testone - No One: Your tone and this song just didn't match well for me. But on the verses, you were brilliant. When you got to the chorus and bridge, you got a little sloppy. Especially at the end with the runs. I think that you have a good voice but it just doesn't seem sustainable.

Phillip Phillips - U Got It Bad: Dude, the first half was ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!!! Then you went into old "stay on the same note, grunt, and slide to the next note" Phillip. I don't like that Phillip. Put him in a cellar and bury him. Seriously, the first half was great but the last parts of it made me cringe again.

Hollie Cavanagh - Son Of A Preacher Man: So I guess someone is ready to really compete this season? I like this pitch perfect and confident Hollie!!! I even really like your outfit and normally I don't even care about fashion! Good job.

Colton Dixon - Bad Romance: So I love Lady Gaga's original but I always envisioned that the song should have been a rock song. And this is exactly what it should have sounded like!!!! There were some iffy low notes but the overall performance was AMAZING!!! I just wanted to rock out to Lady Gaga!!!

Hollie Cavanagh - Rolling In The Deep: I LOVED IT!!! Of course, it is no Adele. But who will ever be Adele but Adele??? She actually was confident. She was pitch perfect. And she showed emotion and personality!!! Bravo for Hollie!!!

Jessica Sanchez - Fallin': As much as I DID NOT want this song again at all, this version sung by Jessica felt like a refreshed and totally different song. She ran like crazy and they were flawless with direction. She had so much soul and inner grit in this song. Just a powerhouse vocalist IMO. I don't want what happened last week to happen this week. That would be bananas crazy.

Jessica Sanchez - Try A Little Tenderness: Seriously, I just want to throw my shoe at her. She just digs right into the heart of every song. Just a fearless singer and that makes me a HUGE FAN. She does things that just wrap all around the song. The grit, the runs, and the soul. Everyone says that she is overrated. She is an amazing singer who totally gets it! I mean 16 and singing like that.

So I know that I will get some complaints because Jessica did a 1-2 punch on the songs IMO. Hollie also managed to come back from the ashes!! Joshua was my biggest disappointment this week. It is almost like he is out of steam. Those two songs should have been right in his pocket but he faltered big time.

Who is in the Bottom 3? Well I say Elise, Skylar, and Joshua. I think that the time has come for Elise to go but I would rather see Joshua go at this stage. If they eliminate two tomorrow, then those are the two that should go.
