American Idol Season 11: Top 8 80's Week
I love 80's music!!!! It had life and a sense of freedom. Vibrant is a great way to describe most music from the 80's.
Elise Testone - I Want To Know What Love Is: First of all, you get 120,092 points down for doing this song. I can not think of a song that I detest more! Secondly, I never felt that you were grounded within the song. Just seemed out of sorts at various points in the song. You added riffs and inflections that didn't seem so confident. And the key change was very awkward. I mean you gave one of the greatest performances last week and this one kind of fell short.
Phillip Phillips - That's All: Wait didn't you do this last week? Oh no.....well maybe that Top 24 week. No....well I am sort of confused. WHY DO ALL OF YOUR SONGS SOUND THE SAME??? It was just middle of the road but nothing that I would buy a ticket for or even want to check out for free. That grunty strainy sound is really getting to me. And not in a good way.
Colton Dixon - Time After Time: And the winner for MOST PREDICTABLE SONG CHOICE goes to..... Yea I didn't really care for this. There were some minor pitch problems. A lot of that comes from the scooping that you do with your vocals.
Joshua Ledet - If You Don't Know Me By Now: Were you given a free pass to do a repeat of your favorite performance? No...hmmm...well maybe this was a medley of your other performances? What...No....wow then maybe YOU SHOULD STOP SOUNDING THE SAME WEEK AFTER WEEK AFTER WEEK!!!! Yes you can sing. Yes you can do a gazillion riffs. Yes you can do astronomical runs across Jupiter but I need some versatility. Fantasia could go "to church" on a lot of songs but she had RESTRAINT on most of her songs. She used it when it was necessary!!!
I suggest you do the same or else AMERICA will get tired of you.
Hollie Cavanagh - What A Feeling: The beginning was stunning vocally for me but then when you got into, there were a couple of bum notes. I appreciate that you stepped out of your wheelhouse and did an uptempo song. I thought that it was good even though I feel that you are still lacking some confidence.
Jessica Sanchez - How Will I Know: Hmmm the first semi lackluster performance from you. Love the song but just not for you. You did an okay job with it but I feel like there were better choices for you. Nothing really excited me in this performance.
Deandre Brackensick - I Like It: This is more of your style. By far one of your best. Falsetto was used when it was needed and not excessively until the end. I did like that you used your chest voice more.
Skylar Laine - Wind Beneath My Wings: WHOA!!! You, to me, were the only vocalist that showed up tonight. Everyone else kind of just sang to get it done. YOU SANG FOR YOUR LIFE!!! I love the country infused ballads from you!! This one just took it to new heights. You hit notes that I didn't know about. They better watch out for you!!!
Overall not an impressive night. Even my favorite, Jessica, faltered a little. Skylar won the night for me hands down. I predict a Hollie, Elise, and Deandre bottom 3. With Deandre or Hollie going home. IMO, Elise was the most uncomfortable tonight. My B3 would be Elise, Colton, and Phillip. I know that Phillip isn't going anywhere. I just don't get him on an consistent basis. Hopefully the right one goes.
