American Idol Season 11: Top 4 California Songs and Songs That I Wish That I Wrote
First of all, what very awkward themes for tonight. Seriously who thinks of these themes. I can't believe that it is TOP 4!!! Wow this came quickly for me. Although, I am kind of wanting this to be over soon. Ready for summer!!! Back to the matter at hand:
Joshua Ledet - You Raise Me Up: Love this song but why oh why did we have to make it into a Vegas show number???? Complete with the corny rising platform and the gospel choir. I felt like the ENTIRE performance was contrived. The vocals just didn't seem real or connected to me.
Hollie Cavanagh - I Can't Make You Love Me: This just went nowhere for me. I don't know what happened in between sets but this was shaky and just out of socket. It just didn't come together for me. It seemed a little too rehearsed.
Phillip Phillips - Have You Ever Seen The Rain?: Well I must say that I actually enjoyed this performance. Definitely one of his best! Look I have something positive to say about Phillip!!! This song suited his vocals very well. My only complaint is that I wish that he wouldn't show the strain of his voice on his face. If you look uncomfortable while singing, more than likely it probably hurts. If it hurts, the audience would like to put you out of your misery by not voting. Just sayin'.
Jessica Sanchez - Steal Away: Wow that was sassy, bluesy, and spunky. Of course it is not going to tug at the heartstrings like Hollie's song but man I slapped my monitor like 3 times during that performance LOL. The performance of it was GREAT. Awesome!!
Jessica Sanchez - And I Am Telling You: This was GREAT vocally but how can someone sing that song just standing there??? I feel like the judges were reaching and fishing for compliments though. Yes vocally it was superior but it didn't make me feel anything. I have some great actresses SLAY this song. Nod to my girl, Shawnee Lining, who killed it every night in the Dominion Stage production!
Hollie Cavanagh - Faithfully: Wow for me that felt like a professional performance. Not just vocally but in confidence and in emotion. I really loved this performance. Now if we could just get through a Journey song without the mention of Randy Jackson's part in it, the world would be as one. Seriously, enough already RANDY!!!
Phillip Phillips - Volcano: WHOA THAT WAS AMAZING!!!! HANDS DOWN YOUR BEST!!! Dude where have you been hiding that??? That was your moment. I want to buy that right now!!! That was seriously out of this world. The combination of the vocals, the atmosphere, and the emotion just sealed it for me.
Joshua Ledet - A Man's World: HE LAID IT ALL OUT THERE. Normally, I think that this would be too much but he sold it for me. I love it when singers put it all out there. This performance had a certain "ache" to it. I have heard you sing before but this was very different for me. It felt like you really really believed the song. DUDE LAY IT DOWN!!!
Well how the tables turn!!! My good friend Leslie will be surprised with my blog this week LOL. I really enjoyed Joshua and Phillip's last performances. Phillip, especially, stepped it up big time for me. I really really think that Hollie is in deep trouble this week. She was the only one that truly truly faltered. So for me, Phillip, Jessica, and Joshua should be fighting it out next week for a place in the finals.
