AMERICAN IDOL 12: VEGAS WEEK 1 GUYS

Hmmmm....if these are some of the best that the guys have to offer, then I am going to go out on a limb and say that the ladies will take over. I really really hope that America gets it somewhat right this season. And by somewhat, I mean letting a lady win this competition after a 6 year drought. 6 years since we have had a female winner!! Here is how the guys fared to me:

Chris Watson - Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay: What a mess. If I heard you do that inflection on your notes one more time, I would have rammed my head in to the screen. AAAHHHHHH it drove me crazy because you just went back and forth between two notes and did it on EVERY long word. I hated this arrangement of the song. It did NOTHING for you. I felt like you were trying to show your rocker side but it did not come through. NOT A FAN.

Elijah Liu - Talking To The Moon: What are you 12???? This is one of my favorite songs and you RUINED it. Your vocals were so thin and all over the place. The falsetto was A MESS. A complete and utter MESS. I don't know what the judges were listening to. This was HORRID. Did I hold anything back????

Johnny Keyser - I Won't Give Up: Nice song and voice but it really just stayed in one box. It  didn't take me anywhere and I think that it was the wrong song choice for this situation. No one is going to remember this down the road because it was just so middle of the path. I would have enjoyed it more if you moved around and connected more to it.

Kevin Harris - Everything I Do: I could hear moments of awesomeness in your voice but the song choice was killer for you. I would love to hear you do something else. This did not fit your voice to me. I hate when contestants go into their falsetto at the end. It just seemed so out of place. Your performance left a lot to be desired. I would definitely work on your performance quality.

Charlie Askew - Rocket Man: I like this kid for some reason. I think that his voice has an interesting quality. With the right coaching, he could transform to an amazing vocalist but this vocal was shaky and all over the place. It still had moments of quality but was not the Charlie that performed Nature Boy. It was ok.

Jimmy Smith - Raining On Sunday: Good vocal but didn't take it to the height that I was hoping for. I think that your voice is better than this song. Picking a song of a judge is not the best game plan unless you are going to knock it out of the water. It felt too laid back. You are an extremely nice guy with a nice personality but the vocal didn't soar.

Paul Jolley - Tonight I Want To Cry: Nice pleasant voice for the MOST part. The beginning with your lower register was great!!! BUT.....your power and high notes MAN OH MAN, they were crazy shaky and out of control. I am also not a fan of singing something by a judge. It is too close to home and it could nothing but work against you unless you plan to blow it out of the water. You definitely need to work on that aspect because I think that you could do well in this competition.

JDA - Rumor Has It: The most interesting performance of the night!!! Yea, he may not have the absolute best vocals but at least we knew that he was ALIVE!!! Seriously, most entertained that I have been watching Idol in YEARS!!! There were not bum notes but he just didn't give it the vocal energy that it needed. I would have loved to have seen him on the big stage. Great performance.

Curtis Finch Jr - Superstar: His personality is really stopping me from putting him in the top. Vocally, his tone is awesome but some of the choices came off as "LOOK LOOK LOOK AT WHAT I CAN DO!!!!".  His faces were annoying but I would just love to hear a straight vocal with very few inflections. Compared to the ones that we heard tonight, he stands out but he just does TOO TOO MUCH. And Randy, don't give him that Luther comparison.

Devin Velez - Listen: The tone of your voice is so money!!! For being so young, it really sounds like it has some depth. I loved loved loved the first half but then came the key change that didn't need to happen. If you had stayed in the first key, you would have SLAYED them. I love this song choice because not a lot of males do it and it is a great song. Great job!!!!

Wow. Why can't I be 10 years younger so that I can be in this competition??? Every season, the guys leave a lot to be desired. Devin and Curtis came the closet but they have a lot of work ahead of them if they want to hang these ladies. I am loving this group of females. Until next time!!
