AMERICAN IDOL 12: Top 10 Songs of Idols Past
So yea, I am about a week behind with this blog but I still wanted to do it instead of skipping over it. This theme left me at odds. On one spectrum, I loved the concept and the idea. On the other spectrum, I thought how freaking awful. Are we going to get an episode full of coronation songs? That would be pain inducing and tear resulting. Well let's get down the reality of it all.
Lazaro Arbos - Breakaway: You seemed so out of depth with this song. I think that the other singers are just leaps and bounds above you. The vocals were shaky and unoriginal. I just don't think that you are ready. I really hope that America can see this. Not fair to you or the other contestants. You really need some more time. Just not grounded yet.
Curtis Finch Jr. - I Believe: Why this song??? I have sung this song many times and always question my choice lol. It is just one of those songs that is not meant for the male voice. There were some good moments in the beginning but when you decided to "let your hair down" it got very shouty, showy, and messy. 3 words that should never be used when describing a performance on American Idol. And that last note, what da what dude??? Just stop it. We know that you have the falsetto but not twice in one song and not on every song.
Janelle Arthur - Gone: Didn't like the song choice. You performed it okay. Not a great song to showcase your vocals. No one is going to remember this in the morning. I mean I just listened to it 5 minutes ago and I don't remember anything from it. I think that you have some sort of potential there but did not showcase that at all this week.
Paul Jolley - Amazed: Just a nice song for you. To be expected because you are a country singer singing a country song. My only complaint is that some of your words were really choppy especially on words like thing and that. Other than that, pretty good vocal.
Burnell Taylor - Flying Without Wings: I hate this song for you but if you must. It was an okay vocal. I just like the tone of your voice and can't wait to hear what else you do. This song just didn't take you anywhere for me but it wasn't bad. Just middle of the road solid vocal performance.
Devin Velez - Temporary Home: While I love this song for you, I can't wait to see you tear it down with an uptempo. Your vocals are so awesome! Vocally, I feel like you can do no wrong but I just need you to put more into it!
Angie Miller - I Surrender: Something about your voice is just LOVE. When you were singing this I could hear Kelly but really hear Angie. To be 18 and singing like this is CRAZINESS. Maybe not my favorite song choice for you but man you ripped it up!! You BETTA SANG!!!!
Amber Holcomb - A Moment Like This: I was worried with this song choice for you. So risky. 1st coronation performed by the 1st and most successful Idol winner. Then on top of that, closing out the show. But you definitely delivered. You sang it with confidence and added your own vocal flair to it. Great job!
Kree Harrison - Crying: Just beautiful. Wow your vocal tone is so soothing and pristine. You are very much like Carrie in moments. Another solid performance from you. You kept it interesting even though it was a ballad.
Candice Glover - I Who Have Nothing: WHAT????!!!!!????!!!! One of my favorite songs ever and done so masterfully with a mix of elegance, current, and angst. Take me out of here lady. You killed that song with a machete, machine gun, and a grenade.
I am going to be so mad if a lady does not win this season. Actually I need the ladies to make up the top 4 like season 3. The guys just are screaming winner to me. Now off to watch last night's episode so that I can play catch up.
