AMERICAN IDOL SEASON 12: Top 9 Lennon/McCarthy Songs
Normally I am very excited about this theme. There are some amazing songs in this bunch and I am very curious to see how the contestants put their own spin on them.
Lazaro Arbos - In My Life: Man, you have no idea how much I want to just root for you but you are clearly out of your league. This was probably one of the worst performances that I have heard at this stage in the show. It was breathy and basic. 2 things that you can not be if you want to win this show. Maybe it was nerves but it just didn't stick.
Paul Jolley - Eleanor Rigby: I could see what you were going for here but it just start too weak. You didn't grab us so when it came time for you to belt the higher stuff, we weren't jumping out of our seats. It seemed unnatural and desperate. Just not a great song for you.
Angie Miller - Yesterday: It was just okay for me. Very theatrical. You belong on the stage. The vocal just didn't have enough of you in it. And I have to mention the almost disastrous early start. Remember Brooke White during this same theme??? It was just okay for me. Didn't blow me out of the water.
Burnell Taylor - Let It Be: This song set really nice in your vocal tone. It had the heart and the pain. There were some questionable vocal moments but they didn't detract from the overall essence of the song and performance. Good job!!
Devin Velez - Long And Winding Road: Nice vocals but maybe too many runs and riffs. You have a great tone so it is totally okay to sustain most of your votes. Good job with the song though.
Kree Harrison - With A Little Help From My Friends: This girl has vocal soul. You make it seem effortless. Lots of greatness in this performance. I just want to see you sell it more externally.
Janelle Arthur - I Will: Wow what a beautiful performance. There were a couple of pitch spots but other than that, WHERE DID YOU COME FROM??? Sneaking up on the competition is a good way to catch friends off guard and get them shakin' in their boots. Beautifully arranged for your voice. Great job!!!
Amber Holcomb - She's Leaving Home: This had such a beautiful broadway/musical theater quality to it and I LOVED IT!! This allowed us to really hear her sing a song. Yea the song may have seemed boring but really listen to the vocals. They are near impeccable. This also showed that she has great range, breath control, and overall vocal essence.
Candice Glover - Come Together: All of the runs and riffs were in the right spots. You just slapped the vocal mess out of the song. You just SANG!! There was not a moment where I felt that you didn't have control.
The ladies are doing the THANG. Gentlemen, you are slacking. Overall they didn't disappoint but I will say that either LAZARO or PAUL should go home tonight. I really need all of the girls to make it into the Top 6 at least.
