AMERICAN IDOL 12: Top 6 Songs of Bacharach and David/Songs They Wish That They Had Written
Here we are Top 6 and a vote away from my dream scenario: A FEMALE top 5. If you know me, you know that I love love love female singers!!! There are some great male singers: Luther, Marvin, Stevie, Frank, John Legend, just to name a few, but the females does something to me. It just stirs up the soul. Just my opinion. Now off of my soapbox and into the Idol world, where this could be a reality! 2 songs each, which could mean 2 chances to wow, 2 chances to bomb, a chance to sink and then rise again, or a chance to raise the bar and then drop it.
Lazaro Arbos - Close To You: I seriously had to listen twice to make sure that I was hearing it correctly. Well......Hmmmm......I HAVE NEVER HEARD A SINGER MISS A KEY CHANGE on a show like this AND STAY THERE. I mean could he not hear what was going on. Didn't they practice this like 10 times before the show? You know when people overstay their welcome, they are bound to do something that will just be downright HORRIBLE and this was beyond HORRIBLE. It was stagnant. It was pitiful. It was ABSOLUTELY the WORST performance that I have seen on the show. EVER. No exaggeration. The song is not a super fantastic song and it didn't do you ANY favors. There were even FORGOTTEN LYRICS AGAIN!!!! AHHHH I could really write a dissertation on this performance. AND THEN you decided to give excuses.....SERIOUSLY???? I want Burnell, Devin, and Paul back. OVER YOU NOW!!!!
Lazaro Arbos - Angels: This was way better than the first song but MILES away from the girls at this point. Sometimes you just have to give up the ghost. I would have some kind of sympathy for you if you had given your all. I don't even see an attempt anymore. I thought that you would at least fight the good fight but you just gave up. Even in song choice, picking a song that the viewing audience already heard from you. Especially so late in the game.
Angie Miller - Anyone Who Had A Heart: One of my favorite songs. I still listen to Vonzell, from season 4, kill this song! Why did you sing this song SO SAFELY????? There was nothing there but notes. It was like someone inserted the music into a robot. It just came off so computerized and inhuman. Where is the passion??? Where is the "umph"??? I have you at Top 3 but if you give robotic performances, you could easily go out 5th.
Janelle Arthur - I'll Never Fall In Love Again: I am starting to like you more and more but this song just didn't give me that sense of wanting the title. It felt as if the song was not your first choice and that it never really set in for you. You just wanted to get through it. It was just okay for me.
Amber Holcomb - Love On Top: On paper, so awesome. In reality, just okay. I was expecting more but I didn't get it. I would have picked another Beyonce song. They had to modify it for the show and the arrangement didn't quite work as well as it should have. I would have picked Deja Vu. Just didn't do enough for me and you seemed to sort of lose your way towards the end.
Kree Harrison - What The World Needs Now: Another one of my favorites. I loved the a cappella intro. You sang it beautifully but I wanted more!!! More passion. More understanding of the lyrics. I don't know, it was just missing something. Sang beautifully but not an incredible performance.
Kree Harrison - Help Me Make It Through The Night: So sweet. So tender. Just beautiful.
Amber Holcomb - Say A Little Prayer: First of all, that shrimp thing.......GROSSED ME OUT!! This song was perfect for you. Great energy throughout and it felt so "in the pocket". She really really did a great job with this song. It just fit her like a glove!!!
Janelle Arthur - The Dance: Yessss Tell That Story!!! Seriously, you have completely grown on me. I loved the passion behind each and every note that you sang!!!! I love to see your try in your singing. It really shows the great improvement that you have made.
Angie Miller - Love Came Down: Now that is a performance! I could tell that you meant and UNDERSTOOD every word that came out of your mouth. I love when you sing songs like this. This is your genre. If nothing else, you will always have a career in contemporary christian. But you just soar vocally. And I LOVE when you do that "yodel" technique in your vocals!!! GREAT JOB!!!
Candice Glover - Don't Make Me Over: I was so hoping that you would pick this song. I actually applauded when you went into your "floaty" higher register. Your transition from your chest voice to your head voice was KILLER!!!!! Just seamless and professional. You sing with passion each and every time. Seriously if you don't make the finals, I will go crazy. Certifiably crazy. YESSSSS this girl is the TRUTH!!!
Candice Glover - Lovesong: WHAT WHAT WHAT WHAT WHAT WHAT!!!!! From the first breath into the first note, I KNEW that this was going to be magical. I thought that I was going to have to purchase a monitor for my computer because I slapped it so many times. There was so much pull and release in those notes. GIRL when you started with that jazzy timbre in your voice, I got the goosebumps and they stayed there the entire time. You sang this song from the inner fiber of your big toe on your left foot. Definitely one of the best performances to ever grace the Idol stage. I want to dissect this performance. EVERY NOTE fell into place and had the right meaning behind it. This was a masterclass on using EVERYTHING that you have in one song. She left it all right there on that stage. It had to be the same spot where Fantasia sang Summertime because it was that type of moment for me. And you know that you are SHIZNIT when Mariah, not only gets out of her chair, but throws glitter/confetti at you. Who knows where she got it from or who said "love you" in that demonic type voice but WHO CARES??!!! CANDICE GLOVER GAVE ME LIFE, TRUTH, AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS with this performance. It was like she took the best of Adele and The Cure, threw in some Ledisi, mixed it up with Anita, and topped it off with Lalah!!! My favorite moments were "feel" in the beginning and when you said "whenever, when when whenawhenever" AHHHHHHHH!!!! I SCREAMED. I GRABBED MY FACE. I FAINTED ON MY BED. YEP this invoked each and every one of those actions for me. I could go on for months on how I feel about this performance.
CANDICE did her THANG!!! Seriously, if I were one of the other contestants, I would be satisfied with losing to her. I would still work hard but give credit where credit is due. She laid it good and down. AMBER, ANGIE, KREE, and JANELLE gave some pretty decent performances. And poor LAZARO just TANKED.....I mean like fell over, exploded, and was left in a burning hot desert kind of TANKED. He should have never made the top 10 let alone be the last guy standing. LAZARO fans is this what you really wanted for him. If I were on a show like this and my talent was not up to par with the rest, I would probably secretly beg you to send me home. Why prolong the inevitable?? He was never going to win. Not to be Dennis the Downer but those ladies were way too solid for him to knock down. So my prediction, hope, prayer, and wish is that LAZARO goes home. No save. No coming back should a contestant quit. No surprise duets. No nothing. Just go home.
