American Idol 14: Top 9 Elimination/Top 8 Songs from Kelly Clarkson

So you know that you are busy when you forget that you didn't blog. Seriously thought that I had covered this but after looking for it all over the internet, I realized that I had not. SMH. Shame on me. Anyway, I have loved Kelly Clarkson from day one. I wanted a Kelly/Tamyra finale so bad in Season 1 but it is what it is. I think that it is extremely awesome that Kelly came back and coached the idol contestants. Finally getting advice from someone who has been in their shoes and continued on to have an amazing successful career. The Kelly Clarkson songbook contains some gems! As always, my ranking goes from least favorite to favorite.

Qaasim Middleton - Stronger: This was painful to listen to. Those runs were so out of tune and sloppy. If you were trying to prove to America that you can actually sing, you failed hard. It sounded like you were murmuring the entire song. I appreciate what you tried to do with the song but you needed way stronger vocals to pull it off. Not a fan.

Nick Fradiani - Catch My Breath: Much better than previous showings. I am still waiting for that standout performance that makes me really pay attention to you as an artist. You look comfortable on stage but your vocals are being outmatched by some of the younger performers. It was a good vocal and I see you starting to peek out from your shell.

Quentin Alexander - Dark Side: Great song choice for you. You sing from every fiber of your being. A couple of unfocused notes here and there but nothing major. I just didn't think that this was a "moment" for you but still a very solid performance.

Tyanna Jones - Mr. Know It All: I really loved this song for you. It was powerful and youthful. This performance showed your vocal strength. Now we just need to show some emotional vulnerability. I felt the emotion come through in this song. Vocally it was very strong and solid. You didn't do a lot with it to make it your own but you still sold it.

Jax - Beautiful Disaster: That was really beautiful. I would have loved it to be more fluid but you certainly showed us that you have a softer side. I really enjoyed the delicacy that you brought to the first half of the song. It felt like a warm blanket around my ears. You are growing on me.

Joey Cook - Miss Independent: Loved it from start to finish!!! The vocals were clear and focused. The arrangement was so stellar! You took that song and gave it a makeover and I would buy it now!!! I don't care what Harry says. I loved the style and the throwback feel. He was just trying to make his career feel current. Geez, let the girl have her praise!

Clark Beckham - The Trouble With Love Is: Something about his voice just reaches in and shakes me. From start to finish, he just sings from his pinky toe. I want him to tune his higher notes better but they are so there. It is like you see the transformation as he gets deeper into a song. Something clicks and he no longer has anything holding him back. He just lets loose. I want to see it more in his eyes though but I would purchase tickets for a Clark Beckham concert.

Rayvon Owen - Since U Been Gone: Let me tell you!!! This boy sat there and SANG!!! I have a soft spot for strings in an arrangement and when you add Rayvon's silky tone, you get pure bliss. There was one slip on the word "mouth" but that is shadowed by the AMAZING arrangement and the song. I mean there was so much breath in this song. You let the song have space and it was beautiful. When you ad libbed at the end, I screamed. I felt like you let the song live in you and your voice. This was one of those amazing moments. I really hope that America gets you and that you stay on this path.

So the only thing that I like about the Twitter Save is that we get to hear all of the performances. I am sure that the contestants love this as well because they will at least get to sing the song that they have worked so hard on. Well our first victim of the Twitter Save is Daniel Seavey. This I found kind of odd. I would think that he was being voted in by all of the teenage girls but I guess that was not the case. Very curious to see what the actual results would have been. I definitely think that America got it right by letting Rayvon through. Especially after that AMAZING performance. Daniel's performance was subpar but still probably one of his best. I understand being sick but the show must always go on. I am looking forward to hearing you with about 2 years of experience under your belt.

Kelly Clarkson week turned out to be great. There was only one clunker for me and he needs to get the boot. Goodbye Qaasim! You were entertaining but not enough for me to want to keep you around. I think that Rayvon did an exceptional job but some reason he can't pull the initial votes. Hopefully Twitter keeps saving him. Nick is also in trouble since he is so middle of the pack in terms of vocals. We will see how this all goes down!
