American Idol 14: Top 3/Top 2 Finale Night

What a week!! So if you haven't heard, American Idol has decided to call it quits after season 15. I think that is the right move. This season was full of uncertainty and the schedule just didn't work. So you can expect everyone who ever wanted to try out for the show to be present at every audition. I will say that it was a game changer in television and in music. It was a catapult into the limelight and that is something that most musicians want.

I guess I didn't look ahead at the schedule. I thought that we had one more week of the show. Sorry that Jax got the backhand of this debacle. It was like Idol just threw all of her hard work away in a ten minute rush job. They could have done a 3 night week and I would have been satisfied. Hey, it is what it is! As always, my ranking goes from least favorite to favorite.

Clark Beckham - Champion: Seriously??? This song fit Clark just as well as Sarah Jessica Parker's head dress would have fit him. I don't fault Clark at all. He did what he could with the song but it was SABOTAGE LOL. It was void of emotion and feeling because he just couldn't connect to this song. He needed like a John Legend type of ballad or a Prince type of uptempo song. This did not do him any favors at all.

Nick Fradiani - Bright Lights: I think that you did better this time around with this song. I loved your confidence on stage. Tonight, you owned it. Not my favorite song choice for you but still a great one. There was a spark in your eyes. Something that read "I can actually be the next American Idol". I seriously saw that moment and knew that you wanted it.

Nick Fradiani - I Won't Give Up: I loved that you took it to the piano and not the guitar. Smart. Very smart. You waited to pull that out all season. I see what you did there. I am not hatin' at all. Well played and it was a very solid performance. You peaked at the right time. Great song choice for you. I even loved that you played with the melody towards the end.

Clark Beckham - Georgia On My Mind: Yes sir! Look, this is your element. I can see you playing some small theater or coffee house and packing the place. You feel more comfortable with this type of music and probably in a smaller venue. Once you fell into a groove, I saw a professional. Someone who could do this for years upon years. I think that this performance was pretty spot on to the previous one and it was still AMAZING!!!

Nick Fradiani - Beautiful Life: Wow! This was so well suited for Nick. Everything about it was right up his alley. He was confident. He owned the stage. The song was memorable. Audience was totally into it. Again, that look of "wow I got this" was in his eyes and it was contagious. Such a radio ready song. He got dealt the good hand with this song.

Clark Beckham - Ain't No Sunshine: Mmmmm mmmm mmmm!!! I need songs like this all day from you, sir! My favorite part was when you backed away from the mic and let out a little run. SIR....I can't with you!!! Every note had life. Every breath had life. Every pause had life. The song just LIVED!!!! The phrasing was fantastic. You sang and played it as if it were your song. Probably your performance of the season. FANTASTIC!!!!!

For all of you who follow my blog, you know that I have been on the Clark train for the whole season. Nick was creeping up there but could never take the place of Clark. Clark definitely had the most consistent overall season but Nick just blossomed at the right time. That coronation song clenched his win, IMO. I could see that Nick wanted this more. Clark probably wanted it just as bad. If not, he wouldn't have auditioned but Nick improved and saw the end prize. I could be wrong but Nick Fradiani will be the American Idol Season 14 champion. All signs point to it!

Now I must give myself a pat on the back. Ever since I have been blogging on American Idol since Season 5, this, my friends, is the first time that I have finished a season. FIRST TIME!!! I am proud of myself. This just means that the contestants kept me engaged enough to be invested in them. Or this is the first month of May that I was not involved in a musical with hell week during the week of the finale lol. With only one more year of Idol, I definitely plan to blog about next season. And don't think that there won't be some summertime entries. I am currently compiling a list of EVERY competition performance and ranking them from EVERY season....yea I got my work cut out for me.

Until next time!
