American Idol 14: Top 4 Hometown Dedication/Scott's Pick/Judge's Pick/Top 3 Revealed
Top 4 seems very legit going forward. Going into this, I don't feel attached to a contestant. Now it is kind of just who do I favor more. I think that they are each talented in their own right. I just have a personal taste but can appreciate all that the remaining contestants have to offer. As always, my ranking goes from least favorite to favorite.
Rayvon Owen - Want To Want Me: Song choice....meh. Scott tried to sabotage you lol. That song is not a great song to begin with and it just doesn't lend itself well to a competition. All the falsetto was coming out unsupported because of the tempo of the song and it just didn't gel. Sorry just wasn't with you on this one.
Rayvon Owen - As: Not too crazy about this song for you. Beginning had some silky moments but the song overall did not work. It had a weird ending and it did not allow you to really showcase your talent. Just not my favorite performance from you.
Nick Fradiani - Because The Night: Scott picked a great song for you. I loved the rock edge that it had to it and that showcased the type of artist that you will be. Even though I still don't see the uniqueness in you, I feel that you have progressed each and every week.
Jax - Misery Business: This was rhythmic. This was awesome. I didn't see anything wrong with the performance. It just didn't do much for me in the WOW department. Great song choice for you and this is the type of artist that I hope that you become.
Clark Beckham - Beautiful Day: This is the first time that I saw a lot of personality from you. Not the perfect song choice for you. It didn't fit well but I am glad that you gave it your all.
Nick Fradiani - I'll Be: There was something different about this performance. There was a softness confidence to it. Whatever you did here, do it for all of your songs. I felt like I was watching and listening to an artist with this song. It was right in your pocket. Great job!!
Clark Beckham - Sittin' On The Dock Of The Bay: This was the song that I feel like you were waiting to sing all season. You can tell that you feel absolutely comfortable singing these types of songs. For me, it was just ok. You did everything that I expected you to do but I still wanted more creativity.
Jax - My Generation: You betta rock it out girl!!! Energy and pizazz and sass all balled up into one performance!! Got me excited! There were some Tina Turner like stage presence going on and I loved each and every minute of it!
Rayvon Owen - You Are So Beautiful: This was a master class in ballad singing. Great work. Loved the arrangement. It was minor, creepy, but hauntingly beautiful. I wanted you to sing more through the phrases. Let the song breath more but I think that you did a great job with it.
Clark Beckham - Earned It: Hmmm mmm mmm. The voice and delivery of this song was just SEXY. I mean really sir. I just want you to translate in your face. Sometimes you have a look of "what am I doing here". You create a story in the song. It had an arc. Started sincere and soft. Then you got more intense and it just made the hairs on my neck stand up. Loved it!!
Nick Fradiani - Back Home: This was the first time that you have delivered a bona fide feel good stage performance. It had infectious energy and your vocals were committed. I loved everything about it. It got me smiling and in a good mood.
Jax - My Immortal: What a beautiful performance. This is keeping me aboard the Jax train. When you give delicate and transparent performances like that, I can see you winning the whole thing. Stunning. I don't know what more to say. FANTASTIC!!!
I think that tonight was a win! First time this season where I had a difficult time ranking the performances. I think that Rayvon was the right choice to go home. He had run his course. He did what he needed to do. Lots of great performances from him. Now next week will be interesting. Let's look at it.
Clark vs. Jax: Evenly matched. This is the finale that I am hoping for actually. This is the finale that has been floating around the internet since Top 10. I think that we would definitely be entertained. I can see Jax winning in this scenario. But you never know.
Nick vs. Clark: I would be okay with this finale. I think that it would verge on boring IMO. Clark is an amazing singer but just doesn't have the performance on lock. Nick is a good singer with some performance capabilities but suffers from all of his songs sounding the same. I think that Clark would come out on top here.
Jax vs. Nick: The styles are too similar if they both decide to rock out. Jax could easily separate herself by choosing songs like My Immortal and showing her versatility. I think that Jax would demolish Nick but I could be extremely wrong.
Until next time!
