American Idol 14: Top 5 Elimination/Top 4 Going Home Songs

I need things to start heating up on this show. Performances have just been blah lately. By this time, we normally have a standout performance that gets my attention. One that I have to play over and over again but that has yet to happen. Well here we are with the Top 5 going into the Top 4 with no twitter save. As always, my ranking goes from least favorite to favorite.

Jax - Human: I totally get what you were trying to accomplish with this song but your vocal tone just didn't suit the feel of the song. Just not a good match. There were moments where you were not in sync with the key of the song. Just a little under. I understand that you were sick but call me ruthless, I can't give you a pass on this one.

Nick Fradiani - What Hurts The Most: Song suited you well. This performance was note for note perfect but at this stage, that just doesn't work for me. I need more. I need to feel your fight through your voice.  Technically great but nothing more to it.

Jax - Empire State Of Mind: Song was great for you. Even with the sickness, I thought that it added to the character of the performance. I wanted the performance to drive more. Just sat in one pocket for me and it dragged a little. Good vocal, even through the sickness.

Nick Fradiani - Bright Lights: Nice song for your voice. I felt more of an inner fight in this song. You sang it with conviction. Didn't do much to give a "Nick" stamp but enough to make it a good performance.

Clark Beckham - Livin' For The City: Good song choice. I feel like you could have lowered the key by a whole step and it would have fit right in your pocket. I can tell that you want this. You can see the end in sight. Just keep being authentic and musical. As much as I love you doing Stevie, I don't want to see anymore from you. Switch it up with a current song at some point.

Rayvon Owen - Believe: I enjoyed this performance from you. The first half was brilliant. The phrasing and emotion was spot on. You really connected to lyrics. The middle part was a little unsettled. Just didn't land all the way on some of the notes. I loved the emotion at the end. You have that buttery tone that can just penetrate any song. Still waiting on the song that really takes you to the next level.

Clark Beckham - Your Man: What an interesting on this country classic! I really enjoyed the R&B vibe that it had. Vocally exquisite. My only gripe was the guitar solo that showed a lack of star power. If you step out for an instrumental solo, OWN IT!!! Great vocal!!

Rayvon Owen - Need You Now: I felt every emotion that you were feeling. The transition to your head voice was impeccable. It had a little lift and a little flair to it. The placement on "at all" was AWESOME!!! There was one part on the word "control" where you lost a little control but that was the only flaw in this performance. FANTASTIC!!

I was hoping that Tyanna would rise above her iffy performance a month ago. It seemed that she never gained her footing back. Such a talented and sweet girl. So many great things are coming her way. Rayvon has had too many lives. While I want him to make the top 3, I think that the audience appeal of Jax and the steam of Nick will triumph. I fear that Clark will land with him in the bottom. He has shown what type of artist but he needs to make it fresh and contemporary. Until next time!
