American Idol Overhaul: Season 5
Season 5! One of my favorite seasons! After watching this season, I wanted to get back into performing. These contestants really inspired me. There were at least 5 that I really enjoyed throughout the season. This is also the first time that I did not agree with the final outcome. More on that later.
THE FINALIST
MELISSA MCGHEE
Her tone was so lovely. So warm. Unfortunately she could never get the preparedness game under wraps.
KEVIN COVAIS
He needed a couple of years IMO. His voice hadn't quite matured. I wasn't convinced that you knew who you were as an artist.
LISA TUCKER
Her voice had so much potential but she had a horrible ear. She was always flat or sharp. Never right on the note.
MANDISA
She was a powerhouse vocalist. I think that song choice got the best of her. She was easily one of my favorites.
BUCKY COVINGTON
He was a good country artist but I didn't get the hype.
ACE YOUNG
Looks over voice at times. He delivered some good vocals but never reached the potential that I wanted him to.
KELLIE PICKLER
Vocals always came off nasally. I wanted her to be grounded in her voice but she never got there for me.
PARIS BENNETT
One of my favorite vocalist to ever come from Idol. She possessed all of the qualities of a seasoned pro with the youth of her age.
CHRIS DAUGHTRY
Rock on sir! One of the best rock voices! It was his vocals coupled with his stage presence that really took him over the edge. He seemed to really own it all of the time.
ELLIOTT YAMIN
I can't tell you how much I looked forward to each and every performance from him. He brought his soul and unique voice to the stage and I was forever grateful.
KATHARINE MCPHEE
She came out the most ready. So poised and elegant. Her vocal delivery had the finesse of Celine Dion with a tone all her own.
TAYLOR HICKS
He had some good moments but that was it for me. He came off as too much of a loose cannon. Could have potentially been great. His vocals reminded me so much of a Ray Charles/Michael McDonald mix.
WHO GOT ROBBED..........
MELISSA MCGHEE
Melissa McGhee - What About Love
One of the best vocal tones among the ladies. She should not have gone out 12th. I would have given her 8th at the very least.
MANDISA
It is ashame that a vocalist went out 9th due to song choice. Contestants shouldn't bring own personal beliefs into voting shows. The public will make you pay if they don't agree. She was extremely talented. Easily could have been in finale.
CHRIS DAUGHTRY
To be honest, I wanted him to win the whole thing. I wanted the top 5 to be him, Elliott, Paris, Katharine, and Mandisa. It would have been so good. I would have been happy with any of them winning. He had the rock edge that drew me in during every performance.
