American Idol 15: 2nd 12 - Duets/Eliminations
As much as I enjoy seeing former idols come back, I would enjoy these much better if they weren't being judged. Just not fair to current contestants. I wasn't too impressed with last week's decision. Let's see if the judges can redeem themselves.
Tristan McIntosh & Kellie Pickler - Best Days Of Your Life: Whew....my ears were seriously hurting. I wanted to like it. I really really did but the combination of tones were so piercing. Tristan was very awkward in movement. I don't ever want to hear this again though.
Jenn Blosil & Constantine - My Funny Valentine: Just no. Notes were all over the place with both performers. I did not understand the love for this performance. Constantine is not my favorite vocalist. Jenn was trying. I can appreciate that. This duet....yea just didn't do it for me.
Manny Torres & Jordin Sparks - No Air: Well Jordin sang circles around him. He just got swallowed up IMO. He just didn't deliver enough with the vocals. I wanted more passion and the intro package proved that he couldn't emote during the song.
CJ Johnson & David Cook - The World I Know: Good vocals but nothing stood out to me. Great connection between the two of them. I just wish that there was more of a moment with it.
Dalton Rapattoni & Chris Daughtry - Higher Ground: Hmmm...didn't do much for me at all. Like he is a cool kid. Decent vocals but didn't hit it out of the ballpark for me. The band was way too loud. I could hardly hear the vocals from either performer. When I did hear the vocals, it was Chris that was prominent.
Shelbie Z & Constantine - Bohemian Rhapsody: Shelbie can perform! She is awesomely good on her vocals. Constantine was subpar during this performance. Shelbie owned it throughout. The judges are making me so angry this season. Don't bash the contestant on songs that they are forced to do. I now see why they don't want America to vote until wild cards........I am kind of happy that it is on it's last leg. That judge bashing was totally unwarranted and wrong.
Lee Jean & Chris Daughtry - Home: Lee Jean during the verse was amazing. He had one hiccup when he tried to go to his falsetto. I am not completely sold on his vocals just yet. Chris is amazing and Lee held his own.
Adam Lasher & Haley Reinhart - Can't Help Falling In Love: Yes Adam was stiff physically but the vocal from both performers were superb. They delivered an emotional vocal. His physicality definitely did not help his cause but his voice is so mature and hefty.
Kory Wheeler & Haley Reinhart - Benny & The Jets: Yes Haley is back!!! She absolutely brought out the best in him. He seemed more comfortable. I smiled during the entire performance. Kory was singing so much better than he did on solo night. In the pocket the entire time.
Amelia Eisenhauer & Kellie Pickler - Suds In The Bucket: Yea I absolutely enjoyed it. This is a welcome refresher from last night. Great job Amelia!!! Kellie was a perfect fit for her. It was so vibrant and vocally good!
Trent Harmon & Jordin Sparks - To Love Somebody: Gosh! I just wish that Trent would get his posture and facial expressions under control. Just too much. He doesn't need to do all that to get what his voice is doing. I grimace every time I see it. Jordin really brought out the best in Trent. Closing my eyes, I was totally into his vocals. Just gotta fix that one element.
Olivia Rox & David Cook - Light On: I really dig her. She reminds me of Kelly Clarkson in tone. But her musicality is amazing. She is a pro. She knew when to reign it in. She knew when it belt it out. She knew when to steal the spotlight. Look at 16....totally here for her!!!! Olivia Rox sings with so much conviction. Folks, I finally have a favorite....which means that she will get voted off. Just like Sarina Joi Crowe but I am not bitter lol.
These duets were pretty good for the most part. Better than their solo night. Trying to decide who should move on. I have to think about solo and duet. No prior thoughts. Just based on performance. My 7 would be Olivia, Trent, Shelbie, Adam, Dalton, CJ, and Amelia. I definitely know that is not the case.
The actual 7 moving on were Olivia, Trent, Dalton, Manny, Tristan, Lee, and Jenn. Yep nowhere near my picks. I would have traded Shelbie for Tristan, Amelia for Jenn, and CJ for Manny. Lee is fine. I don't think that he is ready but he did okay on both nights. At this point, I have my top 6: Olivia, La'Porsha, Trent, Avalon, MacKenzie, and Sonika. Overall, I need more. This is the last season. The judges are supposed to give us a powerhouse last season. We have been told all season that they are looking for the bookend to Kelly. Right now I have one definite and a couple of possibles in that hand. PLEASE ROCK MY SOCKS NEXT WEEK!!!!
