American Idol 15: Top 24 - 1st 12 - Duets/Eliminations

Tonight we get duets with former Idol contestants/winners....yay (sarcasm should be oozing from your screen lol). It is way too early in the game for this. I don't even know their voices. Now I have to listen to them as they try to keep on par with some seasoned pros that came from the show. Ugh..those poor contestants. On one hand, it is extremely cool. On the other hand, they just threw under the bus, down a hill, and in a pit of fire. Let's see how they fare. Ranking the performances from least favorite to favorite.

Thomas Stringfellow & Nick Fradiani - Man In The Mirror: Nope nope nope. Both of their voices were put out in the forefront as weak. AND THOMAS....NO MORE YELPS! I know that it was a Michael song but so unnecessary. I felt absolutely nothing. I was waiting for it to be over.

Jeneve Rose Mitchell & Scotty McCreery - Gone: Hmmmmm I was trying so hard to get into it. Unfortunately her quirky awkward movements totally distracted me. Vocally, I thought that she did okay. Nothing to really grasp onto but she didn't falter.

Gianna Isabella & Nick Fradiani - Beautiful Life: She has potential but it just isn't there yet. She needs some time to grow. She was piercing through most of the harmonies. Kind of screaming it. Horrid song for her but I want to see more of a passionate performance from her.

Jordan Sasser & Fantasia - I Believe: Yea he upstaged her and that bothered me unfortunately. At that point, Fantasia just said I am gonna let him do him and just stand here lol. Vocally, he was trying WAY TOO HARD. Dude, just do you.

Sonika Vaid & Caleb Johnson - Skyfall: Odd pairing but it worked. Crazy that Caleb got the higher harmony when Sonika's tone is so beautiful. I guess Caleb needed to belt but....it is not about him!!! If this was a Sonika solo, it would have been awesome.

MacKenzie Bourg & Lauren Alaina - I Hope You Dance: Beautiful but not blown away. MacKenzie was vocally content but didn't go anywhere for me. Just left me wanting more.

Jenna Renae & Scotty McCreery - See You Tonight: They had a believable connection throughout the duet. There were some times when Jenna went sharp. I really thought that they complimented each other very well.

James VIII & Caleb Johnson - Gimme Shelter: Caleb SANG HIS FACE but I should not be saying that when he isn't the contestant. James got outsung but he tried to keep up. The performance was great but totally unmatched.

Emily Brooke & Lauren Alaina - Flat On The Floor: I loved this performance. Lauren brought out the best in Emily. I wouldn't be mad if they did a duet again. During the unison parts, there were some discrepancies. Other than that, she brought it. Way better than her solo round.

Stephany Negrete & Ruben Studdard - Superstar: This was delivered beautifully. There was one questionable vocal pass in the beginning by Stephany but she exuded class throughout. Very well matched.

La'Porsha Renae & Fantasia - Summertime: That intro package!!! Yep that brought me to tears. I wanted this to be a moment but it was great. I think that at times there was too much going on. That should take nothing away from the talent. La'Porsha held her own alongside Fantasia. That could not be easy at all.

Avalon Young & Ruben Studdard - Flying Without Wings: This was the duet that I sat back and enjoyed. They were singing to compliment each other. Harmonies were on point. I felt an actual connection between them. Now....I don't normally comment on appearance because I have been on the receiving end. Avalon, I get the natural look and no make up. I get it. Totally on board but at least brush the hair back more. The strands distracted me. Okay I got it out of my system. Overall, a fantastic job!

Now onto how I feel about eliminations. If I were a judge, I would keep the following 7: Avalon, La'Porsha, Stephany, MacKenzie, Sonika, Jenna, and Jeneve. Gianna is not ready for the big time. She still has some vocal and natural maturing to do. James has a good voice but I feel like he got lost in the mix. Emily disappointed in her solo. Jordan did not make any new fans with his over the top solo performance. Thomas just does not do it for me at all. The yelp....I can't take it!

Well the judges took away Stephany and Jenna. They replaced them with Gianna and Thomas....UGH. Well they will be gone in a couple of weeks. Jenna is understandable but Stephany.....she had so much stage presence and vocals. That is how I see it.

Until next time......
