American Idol 15: Top 24 - 2nd 12
Alright so now we are onto to the second set of 12 singers. Singers that we have no say in lol. Crazy that everything until wildcard is in the hands of the judges/producers. Where is the trust after all of these years??? Anyway, there are a few in this group that I have been looking forward to. Let's hope that they can deliver. I am ranking the performances from least favorite to favorite.
Amelia Eisenhauser - Wake Me Up: Nothing. Nothing at all. I didn't feel a single thing. I wanted more from her but I wasn't getting anything. Her voice has potential but this was not a good showing. She seemed out of sorts the entire time. Including the beginning.
Jenn Blosil - Sorry: Wow...I expected so much more from this performance. The beginning was so off the rails. I felt like the performance never landed in the place that it should have. Yea, she pulled it together in the latter half. The arrangement didn't do much for me. All she did was slow it down. Hmmmmm....her duet better be on point!
Kory Wheeler- Let It Go: Just okay. Nothing really stood out to me. It was too laid back and it didn't come across that he was really performing. His facial expressions were a little unsettling. Not my cup of tea.
Lee Jean - Runaway: He has potential. I wasn't completely on board but I thought that he did a good job. His vocals are interesting. Especially in his falsetto. The song was great for him. I made me forget that he told the audience to "shhh" twice lol.
Manny Torres - Adventure Of A Lifetime: I thought that he chose a great song for his voice. His vocals were good not great. He had stage presence but I am not sure how I feel about his intro package. Came off very cocky. I want to hear him in a more subdued performance. Maybe some John Legend.
Tristan McIntosh - Good Girl: I loved the energy that she brought to this. Especially near the end when she kicked it into her higher register. Probably not the most ideal song but I enjoyed this performance.
CJ Johnson - I'll Be: Even though I am completely sick of this song, I thought that he picked the right one for himself. And it was smart to not have an instrument with him. It allowed me to really concentrate on his vocals and he was on point. I see that Harry is on his "in tune" kick. Man....he did a good job with it.
Adam Lasher - Black And Gold: He has a very good vocal tone. I don't know if this was the right song to showcase that. I believe that he showed enough to win my vote. I want Harry to not critique guitar playing anymore. I honestly don't know what the judges are listening to or listening for. Fire them all!
Shelbie Z - Work Hard, Play Harder: In the earlier rounds, I was not fond of her. But this performance was high energy and showed that she can sing. I thought that the key was fine. Now it wasn't mind blowing but it was pretty good. Way better than some of the trainwrecks from last week.
Dalton Rapattoni - Rebel Yell: Was I jumping up and down? Nope. Was I impressed with his overall performance? Yes. I don't want him to get into the lane of changing every song into an "emo" song. I mean he is good but not great yet IMO.
Trent Harmon - What Are You Listening To: Okay okay okay. I get it. He connected throughout the song. It felt authentic. This was a fantastic vocal. Maybe a little spread too thin at times but overall, fantastic performance. I'm sold. The little inflections and runs made this good.
Olivia Rox - Confident: Alright now. She had tones. She had runs. She made it her own especially in the beginning. I would like her to make her stage presence more natural. It felt a little forced but I loved that she didn't stay behind the guitar the entire time. I was sold when she did the first line in her head voice and then went to chest on the next line. Come on through! I want her to sing on top of the notes more but just a great performance.
There were a lot of misses for me tonight. I think that Olivia, Dalton, and Trent are the only truly safe ones. I think that Amelia and Kory can definitely pack their bags. Everyone else is on the fence. If I HAD to give chances to 4 more people, I would say yes to Shelbie, Adam, CJ, and Tristan. Just because American Idol needs to have their "cast", Manny and Jenn will continue on taking spots from CJ and Adam probably. I am very curious to see how this all plays out. Honestly, I will be happy as long as Olivia and Trent get through.
Until next time.....
