American Idol 15: Top 5 Elimination/Top 4

I am very excited about the performances tonight. I am a huge Sia fan. Lots of treasures in her catalog. Very curious to see how the contestants do. As always, I will rank the performances from least favorite to favorite.

MacKenzie Bourg - Titanium: Bland. Boring. Monotonous. This song is not meant for that. It didn't go anywhere. I wanted more energy and power behind it. Just blah.

MacKenzie Bourg - Want You To Want Me: On paper, I thought that this would have been amazing. I never got to a spot where I felt any connection to it. It was almost like a throw away vocal. Just stayed soft throughout. Because of the arrangement, it lost the umph and energy.

Dalton Rapattoni - God Only Knows: He tries to emote and it comes off okay but I still don't feel connected to him yet. It is probably his vocals. They just don't linger enough for me. With that being said, it was probably his strongest vocal since the finals.

Dalton Rapattoni - Bird Set Free: I loved the emotional connection that he had to this song. You could tell that he felt every lyric. Unfortunately, it also showed his vocal limitations. He tried to give his all and that is much appreciated. One of my favorite songs from Sia. I am actually glad that he took this on.

La'Porsha Renae - Wanted Dead Or Alive: I loved that she infused her style into this song. It had grit and rawness. It wasn't perfect. Couple of note strains. Not her best. I thought that it pretty good but just not standout.

La'Porsha Renae - Elastic Heart: This had confidence and life. No denying her talent. I loved the liberties that she took with the melody. Added a bit of flair to the song that was very welcome.

Trent Harmon - Sharp Dressed Man: Nice touch to this song. He invoked his essence of soulfulness into it. It just sat right in the groove especially in the beginning. Very good to see him really let loose and own the stage. At this point, he could shake up the La'Porsha finish that everyone was solidifying a couple of weeks ago.

Trent Harmon - Chandelier: Man oh man. I love this song from the start. Then with the emotion and vulnerability attached with an amazing vocal. This is an amazing performance. He had restraint and then built it up to power. I can't stop listening. So good. So real. So pro.

As far as Sonika's elimination, I saw it coming. She didn't do enough last week to really wow the voting public. I think that she should have had the chance to sing one of her songs. I hate that she rehearsed that whole week and didn't get to do one of her songs. So dirty but that is how Idol is running things these days.

MacKenzie is hanging on a thread. I think that he will go out next week. Dalton gained some ground. La'Porsha seemed comfortable but Trent totally owned the night. He stepped up and showed out. I am still hoping for a Trent/La'Porsha finale. Either one of them could win and I would be happy.

Until next time.....
