American Idol Overhaul: Season 6
I remember auditioning for this season in Memphis. I remember meeting 3 young ladies on the same bus. We all decided to get a hotel room for the trip. Easier to split it than to go solo. Stood in line to get a bracelet. Then returned the next morning for the audition. Of course, I didn't make it but I had a blast and met three great young ladies. This was a great season to watch. A few shockers but pretty good.
THE FINALIST
BRANDON ROGERS
His vocals were nice but Brandon never tapped into his fullest potential. He never shined to me. He seemed like a nice guy but nothing stood out to me.
STEPHANIE EDWARDS
She just picked the wrong season. She was stellar. A few pitch issues here and there but nothing major. Her vocal tone was a mix of throwback and contemporary.
CHRIS SLIGH
Just an ordinary voice. Nothing special and he never found his lane. I didn't know if he was rock, r&b, or country. He wasn't sure. Therefore, the audience wasn't sure.
GINA GLOCKSEN
She was classy IMO. I enjoyed her vocals. They were Pop Rock and she committed to each performance.
HALEY SCARNATO
Her vocal tone was pretty broadway/cabaret but she has a beautiful voice. She kept picking the wrong songs.
SANJAYA MALAKAR
Why???????
PHIL STACEY
He had a great sound. Mainly in that Huey Lewis/Phil Collins area. He put his all into performances.
CHRIS RICHARDSON
His voice was different. Had a Justin Timberlake quality to it. He knew how to use it and was very smart with song choice.
LAKISHA JONES
Powerhouse vocalist. She had some tuning issues along the way. As well as song choice issues. I felt like she needed to really focus to become refined.
MELINDA DOOLITTLE
THE VOICE of American Idol IMO. She was polished from day 1. She set the bar for vocal ability and honestly few have even come close to reaching her finesse. Melinda was way too good for her season.
BLAKE LEWIS
Cool guy with cool voice. I think that since he incorporated something different, he sailed right into the end.
JORDIN SPARKS
So young and so fresh. Jordin knew that she was a pop artist from the jump. She never tried to be anything but herself. Her voice was high and full. Very impressive!
WHO GOT ROBBED
SABRINA SLOAN
Sabrina Sloan - Never Loved A Man
She displayed all of the makings of a Pop/R&B superstar. I am not quite sure why she didn't make it into the top 12 but she should have been there. Her vocals were pretty much on par with the other ladies. I think that her, Stephanie, and Jordin were in direct fan competition.
STEPHANIE EDWARDS
Stephanie Edwards - How Come You Don't Call Me
She could sing her face off. I think that she didn't connect with the audience for some reason. I was hoping that she would go further than 11th place.
GINA GLOCKSEN
Gina Glocksen - Smile
She got voted off on the wrong week. I was shocked because she gave a great performance that week with Smile. I could have seen her in 6th or 5th.
MELINDA DOOLITTLE
While I love that Jordin won, Melinda should have. From the jump, she showed that she had everything it took to win. So polished. So humble. So poised. So professional.
