The Voice 10: Auditions

With American Idol drawing to an end, I figured that I should probably get hip with blogging about The Voice. I am little behind but hoping to catch up soon! Let's start with the auditions. Instead of ranking each audition, I am going to list my top 20. As with my American Idol blogs, I will rank them from least favorite to favorite.

20. Peyton Parker - Dreams: Very nice pretty vocal. She had me at Fleetwood Mac. She just needs a quality that separates her from the pack.

19. Brittany Kennell - Strong Enough: Her tone is different and it fit this song perfectly. I liked the lift that she had to her voice.

18. Hannah Huston - Unaware: Nice vibrato. I love that she can control it. Her held notes were beautiful and grew with each second. I liked the confidence that she has. It made the performance a lot more enjoyable.

17. Caroline Burns - So Far Away: So pretty. Her voice told a very nice story. I could listen to her a lot. So soothing. Such amazing control.

16. Mary Sarah - Where The Boys Are: Amazing power. Such a great combination of throwback with contemporary.

15. Mike Schiavo - Talking Body: I liked the groove that he had throughout the song. He felt just in sync with the song/music/atmosphere. I loved when he would go from head to chest to head to chest. Transistions seemed flawless.

14. Abby Celso - Should've Been Us: Her earthy tone is magical and convincing with this song. I worry that she didn't have enough energy to really progress. Her vocals were awesome but she needs to energize her performance.

13. Malik Heard - Chains: The key was weird initially but you fell into it. Maybe too many runs and not enough substance. Even with that, I really enjoyed the tone.

12. Moushumi - Wicked Game: Mesmerizing! I loved the vocals throughout.

11. Emily Keener - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road: Control and beauty. Her tone is extremely interesting. Her phrasing was haunting.

10. Adam Wakefield - Tennessee Whiskey: This is how you pick a song perfect for your voice. Probably didn't sway far enough from the original but he got the job done with his performance.

9. Katie Basden - Midnight Rider: Her vocals were so strong. I loved her tone. I worry about her not being different enough. There is no denying her vocal ability.

8. Ryan Quinn - Can't Find My Way Home: His vocal delivery is exquisite. I expect a lot of great thimgs from him. When he hit the stride towards the end, he landed each and every note with power and conviction.

7. Jessica Crosbie - Viva La Vida: It takes a lot for me to really like this song. She managed to make me feel some sort emotion about this song. Her vocal delivery was pretty amazing.

6. Natalie Yacovazzi - Mr. Know It All: Who could not turn around for her? That opening was so powerful and confident. That sold her for me. She laid it all out there. Her performance was so good!!!

5. Paxton Ingram - Dancing On My Own: He placed his runs in all of the right spaces. It was all about delivery and emotion. His tone is pretty good. I felt each and every word.

4. Tamar Davis - Chain Of Fools: Sang ma'am! She used all of her vocal ability in less than 2 minutes. I loved her head voice notes.

3. Shalyah Fearing - What Is Love: Even though she is young, she sold that song. Her tone was spot on. Her delivery was superb. She held notes like a pro.

2. Caity Peters - Jealous: One of the most vulnerable performances that I have ever heard. She is a singer's singer. She wrapped herself in the song. Her dynamics were awesome.

1. Alisan Porter - Blue Bayou: I was entranced by her beginning. She hooked me when she went up to her upper register. Such power. Such range. Such polish. Honestly, I will be shocked if she doesn't win.

It is awesome to have some awesome talent on The Voice. This is why shows like American Idol are being pushed out. The Voice has found ways to keep it fresh and entertaining with the judging panel. Battle rounds are next!

Until next time.....
