American idol 15: Top 3 Elimination/Final 2
It is extremely hard for me to not get emotional about this season coming to a close. 15 years of a legacy stopping tonight. I know that there are rumors of an American Idol 2.0 but it just won't have the nostalgic value that this particular show has. As for Season 15, I can't believe that I got the finale that I wanted. By Top 4, I had an idea of who I wanted in the finals. Season after season, I would have my dreams crushed when my second pick for the finale would get booted out 3rd or 4th place. That may have happened every season. Because I can't let it go just yet, let's take a trip down memory lane:
Season 1: Kelly Clarkson and Tamyra Gray (4th)
Season 2: Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken (I got my wish)
Season 3: Fantasia Barrino and Latoya London (4th but I wanted Jennifer Hudson as well)
Season 4: Carrie Underwood and Vonzell Solomon (3rd)
Season 5: Katharine McPhee and Elliott Yamin (3rd)
Season 6: Jordin Sparks and Melinda Doolittle (3rd)
Season 7: David Archuleta and Syesha Mercado (3rd)
Season 8: Adam Lambert and Allison Iraheta (4th)
Season 9: Crystal Bowersox and Michael Lynche (4th)
Season 10: Scotty McCreery and Haley Reinhart (3rd)
Season 11: Jessica Sanchez and Joshua Ledet (3rd)
Season 12: Candice Glover and Angie Miller (3rd)
Season 13: Jena Irene and Jessica Meuse (4th)
Season 14: Clark Beckham and Rayvon Owen (4th)
So now, besides season 2, I have my wish. La'Porsha Vs. Trent. I want a showdown. A battle for the crown. Well here we go, my last live performance based blog. As always, I will rank the performances from least favorite to favorite.
Dalton Rapattoni - Strike A Match: Totally his type of song. Just felt really short for some reason. I hope that you go on and record this at some point. Watch the approach of the higher notes in the chorus. Make sure to really get up there. You had a good run. You were able to express yourself through song on a national platform.
Trent Harmon - If You Don't Know Me By Now: It was good. You sang with raw vocals. I just didn't get the emotion behind it. The key change was a little shaky. I liked your interpretation of the song but just wasn't your strongest.
La'Porsha Renae - Battles: Unlike Trent's song, this felt like the typical coronation song. Not always a good thing. She did what she could with it but it was very poppy and one dimensional. The message is great. I can't wait to hear the studio version of this. There were some pitch issues and it ended weirdly IMO. Message trumped the vocal in this one but that does not deter from your body of work. Just not a great song for you.
Trent Harmon - Falling: I really like the groove of the song. Probably the first time that a coronation song didn't sound like a coronation song to me. That is how it should be. I can't wait until you settle back into the groove more. The words in the bridge seemed a little out of place. Take your time with it. Such a groove in this song. I loved when you went your falsetto towards the end. It was placed wonderfully. Watch your runs. Make sure you hit every note on the way down. Other than that, great performance.
Trent Harmon - Chandelier: This was definitely the song to reprise for him. I heard a lot more of his vibrato, which I was not upset about. Just as stellar as last time. I felt your emotion come through on this song. Wow this Top 2....so good.
La'Porsha Renae - A House Is Not A Home: Beautiful. It was just in this place of ease. I couldn't keep my eyes off of you. You went to your head voice and it was gorgeous. You made some vocal choices that were amazing. This was so great for you. I loved that you showed so much fire in the second verse to give balance to the song. Fantastic work!
La'Porsha Renae - Diamonds: Yes ma'am. When you redo a song, give it something fresh. That is exactly what you did. There is just a certain professionalism that you possess. It feels like you are a seasoned pro up there. When you started crying while the audience was chanting your name, I lost it. Wow your passion to win this show is just beautiful.
Overall, this is the finale that I have always wanted. Both of them sang for their lives. As it should always be. You are in the Top 2 of American Idol. 1 show away from changing your life. Even though, just being on the show and having a good run can do that if you work your magic. I am so sad but yet so excited to have this come to an end. The final 2 of season 15 did not disappoint. Thank you for an awesome season. Thank you to the readers for reading my words and thoughts on a show that I truly enjoyed. There are more blogs to come. I have to recap seasons 12 through 15. I have The Voice to finish up. I have to do a final analysis on season 15. And if there is time, I will get caught up on Dancing With The Stars and recap those.
Until next time.......*yes I am crying*
