The Voice 10: Top 10
My apologies for the tardiness of this post. Busy life on the road with Ball In The House. Anyway, here are my thoughts about our Top 10. As always, I will rank the performances from least favorite to favorite.
Daniel Passino - I Don't Want To Miss A Thing: Really??? This song??? If you were going to do something completely different, I would have been on board. Such a bad bar karaoke performance. I am not a fan of your vocal tone with this song. When you went to your falsetto, it was a big ole' ball of NOPE. You didn't even prep for it. Your runs were sloppy and out of tune. Cringe worthy during the latter part of the performance. Just no!
Paxton Ingram - It's All Coming Back To Me: Something about his tone really bothers. It is too whiney and immature. Especially on songs like this. It just doesn't sound mature enough to tackle a song like this. It was just "meh" to me. Nothing really sparkled but it didn't tank.
Nick Hagelin - I Can't Help It: I will say that this is probably my favorite performance from him. I actually enjoyed his falsetto. The song was a great choice for him. I still feel like he could be a stronger vocalist but this was one of his best. I can't believe it but I had no problems with this.
Mary Sarah - Stand By Your Man: Totally the type of song that I enjoy from you. The vocal was so strong in the first chorus. After that, I felt you lose steam. I don't want you to get lost in the shuffle. You need to deliver a vocal that is extraordinary.
Bryan Bautista - Promise: I loved the bi-lingual approach. When you sang in Spanish, it was so beautiful and engaging. Just very good. When you got to the English, you lost some of that passion. It didn't quite solidify for me. Notes seemed a little out of tune at times but you delivered a good performance. Not your best.
Hannah Huston - Rolling The Deep: I can't get behind this song choice for her. She is a better vocalist than this song would allow. I loved what she did with it. It just got repetitive after the bridge. I always look forward to her performances because she is a slayer. I think that a different song choice would have helped her gain some new fans.
Adam Wakefield - I Got A Woman: Great song for him. There were some notes that he didn't quite hit but I think that made it more authentic. His vocal tone is still one of the best in the competition. I just want to see and hear more drive from him. I feel like he is relying on his voice too much. Now I want to know that you want to win this.
Shalyah Fearing - My Kind Of Love: Her passion and stage presence is just beyond her years. I loved the rasp/tiredness in her voice. It really helped her sell the song. Definitely one of her more confident performances. Such great dynamics throughout. There was an arc that just made this beautiful.
Laith Al-Saadi - The Thrill Is Gone: GOOD LAWD!!This was the gritty, dirty, back home kind of music that I love. That opening was spectacular. So the voice, of course, was on point. But I am here to talk about your guitar playing! It was masterful and so well placed. His vocals were good but I would love to see him switch it up every now and then. Surprise us with something. The early rounds are the perfect time to do it.
Alisan Porter - Let Him Fly: Now this.....this right here....AMAZING! This is the Alisan that I love! I felt every nuance of her vocal. I felt every syllable of her words. Wow. Probably the best vocal of the entire season. It was simple but heartfelt. She doesn't need to scream or belt. That vocal tone will speak for itself. Simply stunning.
To me, it is very clear who should go home. Daniel just didn't do himself any favors by the song choice. The performance was horrible. So I just think that we can safely send him packing.
Until next time.....
